CTE Manufacturing Construction Program
Build the Future – Hands-On Training in Construction and Manufacturing!
Mazama High School’s Manufacturing Construction Program provides students with essential hands-on construction and manufacturing skills through real-world projects. From carpentry and woodworking to project management and design, this program prepares students for a successful career in the construction industry. Upper-level students engage in meaningful projects by constructing shelters, sheds, and temporary housing units, gaining valuable real-world experience while making a positive community impact.
Why Choose the Manufacturing Construction Program?
With the demand for skilled workers in construction and manufacturing industries on the rise, Mazama’s Manufacturing Construction Program offers a unique blend of hands-on learning and technical training. Students gain real-world experience by working on practical projects while mastering modern construction tools and techniques. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in pre-apprenticeship programs with Klamath Community College (KCC) and develop electrical skills through Crater Lake Electrical’s pre-apprenticeship program.
Program Highlights:
-
Hands-On Learning: Build practical construction and manufacturing skills by working on real projects.
-
Advanced Technology: Utilize CAD software and state of the art workshop and tools to design and fabricate high-quality structures.
-
Community Impact: Upper-level students work on projects like building shelters, sheds, and temporary housing units for those in need.
Manufacturing Construction Course Offerings:
Manufacturing Tech I (Grades: 9-12 | Credit: 1.0 | Prerequisites: None)
This introductory course teaches students the basics of working with wood and construction techniques. Students will complete hands-on projects such as crafting birdhouses, camp chairs, planter boxes, and more. This course provides a foundation in carpentry, tool usage, and construction safety, preparing students for more advanced construction work.
Manufacturing Tech II (Grades: 10-12 | Credit: 1.0 | Prerequisites: Manufacturing Tech I)
In this course, students learn advanced construction techniques with a focus on floor framing, roof framing, and tool usage. Students work on projects using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software and gain experience with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) tools to design and build precise structures. The course emphasizes safe tool use and introduces students to project management skills.
Manufacturing Tech III (Grades: 11-12 | Credit: 1.0 | Prerequisites: Manufacturing Tech II)
In this advanced course, students design and construct real projects, such as shelters, sheds, and temporary housing units. Using CAD programs and advanced construction techniques, students apply their skills to build practical solutions that serve their community. The course focuses on precision fabrication using CNC routers and LASER cutters to complete custom projects for customers, the school, and local organizations.
Manufacturing Tech IV (Grade: 12 | Credit: 1.0 | Prerequisites: Manufacturing Tech III)
The capstone course in the program, Manufacturing Tech IV builds on students' previous experience, advancing their skills in project management, site planning, and construction technology. Students take on leadership roles in the design and construction of larger projects, including temporary housing units and community structures. This course prepares students for careers in construction or higher education in construction management, architecture, or related fields.
Mazama Manufacturing Construction Partnerships
Klamath Community College (KCC) Pre-Apprenticeship Center:
Mazama High School partners with KCC to provide students with opportunities to earn BOLI-certified pre-apprenticeship hours. Through this partnership, students gain hands-on experience and advanced training that prepares them for a smooth transition into state-registered apprenticeships in construction and related fields.
Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship with Crater Lake Electrical:
In addition to the core construction and manufacturing curriculum, select students participate in a pre-apprenticeship program with Crater Lake Electrical. This program allows students to:
-
Learn foundational electrical skills, including wiring basics and safety protocols.
-
Gain valuable experience in both construction and electrical systems, making them versatile workers ready for the demands of modern construction projects.
Team Oregon Build (TOB)
At the upper levels of the program (Manufacturing Tech III and IV), students partner with HUD to address critical housing needs for Oregonians displaced by natural disasters like wildfires. Students gain real-world experience by:
-
Designing and building temporary housing units for displaced residents.
-
Learning how to apply construction techniques to meet HUD standards for emergency housing.
-
Working on projects that provide safe and sustainable solutions to housing challenges in the wake of natural disasters.
The Ford Family Foundation
Mazama High School’s Manufacturing Construction Program benefits from support by The Ford Family Foundation, which enhances hands-on learning and community impact. This partnership enables students to gain real-world construction skills while contributing to projects like building temporary housing for displaced Oregonians, preparing them for successful careers in the construction industry.
