Education Pathway Course Offerings:
Parenting & Independent Living (Grades: 9-12 | Credit: 0.5)
Learn about child development from prenatal stages through age 5. This course covers the responsibilities of parenthood and essential life skills like managing finances, time, and living independently. Students also have the option to care for an infant simulator.
Introduction to Education (Grades 10-12 | 0.5 Credit | Dual Credit: EDU 200, KCC)
Learn the fundamentals of teaching, including lesson planning, instructional strategies, and classroom management. This course provides a broad overview of the education profession, helping you decide if a career in teaching is right for you.
Families & Schools (Grades: 10-12 | Credit: 0.5 | Dual Credit: ECE 101, KCC)
This course examines how families, culture, religion, and socioeconomic factors influence child behavior and development. Students also study effective classroom management techniques and the roles of schools and communities in shaping behavior.
Supporting Child Development (Grades 10-12 | 0.5 Credit | Dual Credit: ECE 101, KCC)
Focus on understanding the growth and development of young children. You’ll explore the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, as well as techniques for supporting them in a classroom setting.
Human Growth and Development (Grades 10-12 | 1.0 Credit | Dual Credit: PSY 235, KCC)
This course dives deeper into the stages of human development from infancy through adulthood. It’s ideal for students interested in both education and psychology, giving them a well-rounded understanding of developmental milestones.
Cadet Teaching I, II, III, IV (Grades 11-12 | 0.5 Credit | Dual Credit: ECE 280, EDU 280, KCC)
Take your education skills to the next level with Cadet Teaching. In this course, you’ll work directly with teachers and students in local elementary schools, assisting with lesson planning and delivery. Gain valuable hands-on experience in real classrooms while learning how to interact with and teach young students.
