Brooke Kliewer to fill position vacated by Laura Blair
Klamath County School District Board of Directors appointed a new board member last week to fill the position vacated by Laura Blair.
Brooke KIiewer will represent the Henley and Keno attendance areas, serving until June 30, 2025, the remainder of Blair’s term.
Kliewer was among five applicants for the position. The four current school board members – Steve Lowell, John Rademacher, Jill O’Donnell, and Marc Staunton – interviewed three of the applicants at the June 15 regular board meeting. Two applicants were eliminated from consideration because they were unable to attend the board interviews.
Her goals as a board member include focusing on academics – math, reading, and writing -- and ensuring KCSD policies reflect the values of the community.
“I want to see the school district thrive now and in the future by strengthening academics, (providing) smaller class sizes, and being an advocate for offering electives that focus on life skills and learning the trades,” she said.
Kliewer and her husband, Ty, have two school-age children. She has lived in the community for 20 years and started her career in Klamath Falls as a substitute teacher for the school district. She also taught animal science at Klamath Community College. She has worked as a commercial loan officer for the past 12 years.
“These experiences have given me the skills to understand the classroom environment, to understand finances and budgeting, and to follow procedures and policies while also being creative to think outside the box and find solutions to achieve goals,” she said.
Kliewer currently volunteers as a 4-H leader, secretary for the Lost River FFA Alumni Association, and as a member of the Klamath County OSU Experiment Station Advisory Board. She is a former board member of the Klamath Lake Counties Food Bank and has volunteered for school activities and events.
